Seeing a musical is one of the most popular things to do in London, and the range and quality are genuinely unmatched outside Broadway.

Long-running shows have their own dedicated websites. New productions and limited runs are worth checking Time Out London for.

Booking Cheap Tickets

The TKTS booth in Leicester Square Square (run by the Society of London Theatre, not the commercial lookalike booths nearby — check the official red booth) sells same-day and advance tickets for many shows at up to 50% off face value. Day seats — released each morning online for that day's performance — are available for most productions. Rush tickets (sometimes digital lottery-based, sometimes walk-up) exist at many theatres. Some productions offer a weekly £25 ticket scheme for under-25s or full-time students.

What to Expect

Dress code is smart-casual to dressed up — there's no strict requirement but it's a step up from jeans and trainers at the more traditional houses. Most performances run 2–3 hours including an interval. Booking for the interval bar in advance at some theatres saves queuing for drinks. Arrive 20–30 minutes early — programmes and cloakrooms take time on a full house night.
