Staying Connected: SIM Cards & Wi-Fi

Getting online in London is straightforward, with several options depending on how long you're staying and how much data you'll need.

eSIMs

For most visitors, an eSIM bought online before travel is the simplest option — it activates the moment you land, avoids the need to find a shop or swap a physical SIM, and can usually be topped up or extended from an app. Compatible with most phones from the last several years, but check your specific model supports eSIM before relying on it.

Physical SIM Cards

UK network shops (EE, Vodafone, O2, Three) are in most shopping areas and at major airports, and prepaid tourist SIMs are inexpensive. This route needs an unlocked phone and a few minutes at a counter, but can work out cheaper for longer stays than an eSIM.

Free Wi-Fi

Free wifi is widely available on the Tube (in stations, not tunnels), in most cafes and restaurants, and at major attractions — a useful backup even with a working SIM.
